Senior Mortgage & Financial Broker
What inspired you to become a Mortgage/Finance Broker?
I grew up in the Philippines. There was a very strong sense of community in the province I grew up in. People relied on each other. Often peoples’ very survival depended on the support of our community.
My childhood instilled in me a strong value around fairness and the importance of helping others.
When I moved to Australia, I found that Australians also believe in ‘a fair go’. My belief that everyone deserves a fair go inspired me to enter the Mortgage and Finance Brokering industry. Every family should have a fair opportunity to achieve their homeownership dreams.
My Grandma (Lola) Aurora Violeta was an entrepreneur who knew how to hustle! While raising 12 kids, she with my grandfather, ran a farm in the Philippines. They produced fish, prawns, crab, and sugarcane. Every harvest they would sell them wholesale. My grandmother kept a portion of their harvest aside to sell retail at the markets. She was a keen negotiator when she didn’t have enough money to pay school tuition, she would barter with the school.
She inspired to become a small business owner and to help other small business owners achieve their dreams by helping them secure commercial finance.
What do you love about being a Mortgage Broker?
I love that I build lasting relationships with my clients.
My family inspires me. I want the best for them, I work hard for them. I look after my clients like family.
As a Mortgage & Finance Broker, I make a positive difference to my clients’ lifestyles, by finding a loan that suits their circumstances. I pride myself on the service I offer. I carefully research and compare loans and am available ‘on call’, anytime, every day. I meet my clients anytime and anywhere that suits them, whether it be their workplace, in their homes, the local coffee shop or in our family-friendly office.
Apart from Mortgage & Finance Brokering, what else do you love to do?
I love spending time with Jo (my wife) and our two kids. We live near the beach, we like to hang out there year-round. I used to surf, I injured my shoulder, but I still like to get out in the waves.
We do a lot of work in our local community. I love getting out and about, meeting people and lending a hand.
I’m a huge basketball fan. My favourite team is the Chicago Bulls. Our son is quite a good golfer (for a 3-year-old), we try to get to the driving range at least once a week.
I don’t mind the odd cheeky glass of good quality Rum
Carl is a member of the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA). MFAA brokers are the highest educated in the country and adhere to a strict ethical and professional code of practice, so you know you’re in safe hands.
Carl is proud to have been appointed to the MFAA SOLD Advisory Panel. The panel advises the Mortgage & Finance Brokering Industry on best practice around social responsibility, opportunities for women, inclusion, diversity and well-being.
As well a being a fully-qualified credit advisor, Carl is a graduate of arguably Australia’s most prestigious Broker Mentoring program AlphaBroker Mentoring.

Why do you love working in the Mortgage & Finance industry?
I remember the amazing feeling of walking into my first home. The excitement, the joy and the sense of accomplishment. What I didn’t feel was the burden of worry associated with making repayments, which so many people experience, because I entered the property market highly prepared and with a realistic, well-structured home-loan.
That’s what I want for you too.
I know that money doesn’t necessarily buy happiness, but I do believe that every family should have the opportunity to experience home ownership, to be able to build an investment portfolio and to drive a vehicle that meets their family’s needs. And I know that it is possible, given the right advice and support along the way.
What inspired you to create a family-friendly service?
I’m a mum of two and I know how difficult it can be to go to the bank or access other professional services with kids in tow. It’s frustrating and challenging.
I remember having to speak to a call centre about our utilities. During the call, my little one alternated between noisily playing in the background, to tugging on my leg and attempting to climb on my head. Then right when I was getting to the negotiation stage, he needed an urgent nappy change! So, there I was trying to listen attentively and take notes all whilst changing a nappy.
As a child, back when people still used chequebooks, my mum seemed to be at the bank ALL. THE. TIME. Realistically, she probably only took us to the bank once a week, but from my perspective, it felt far more frequent. One day my brother was so bored waiting for mum at the bank that he pushed his head in between the bars of the teller queue partition. His head got stuck and it took almost an hour – plus firemen – to free him! A frustration for everyone involved.
As these scenarios played out repeatedly, I realised there had to be a better way to access professional services. You can’t always wait until your kids are asleep to make phone calls or have appointments. I noticed that there wasn’t anywhere that offered a solution to those challenges, so Carl and I decided to create a finance service that directly addressed these issues.

When you are not working in the business, what do you enjoy doing?
Family means everything to me. I love hanging out with Carl and the kids. We have our favourite café by the beach that we go to some weekends. I also volunteer with local not-for-profit Dogs for Kids with Disabilities, which is a lot of fun.
